Yoojin’s diverse portfolio stems from her solid foundation in classical music, paired with her profound understanding of jazz and improvisation. She was recognized as an outstanding prodigy, winning the Hankook Ilbo Competition at age 7. Her accomplishments as a soloist and concertmaster led her to attend the Korea National University of Arts, one of the most prestigious universities in South Korea, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Classical Violin Performance under the tutelage of Professor Nam-Yun Kim, one of the country’s most celebrated violinists.

Following her graduation, Yoojin toured as a violinist with K-pop artist Lee Seung-Hwan and became intrigued by the world of jazz and improvisation. She liked the idea of not being restrained by following the conventions of classical music or playing solely by sheet music. In 2006, Yoojin moved to Boston to study at the renowned Berklee College of Music, pursuing jazz in earnest. After graduating Magna Cum Laude in performance from Berklee, she moved to New York City and, in 2011, earned a Master’s Degree in jazz performance from Queens College under the mentorship of Professor Antonio Hart.
